World Down Syndrome Day
March 21 is World Down syndrome Day! This is a big day for my family. If you don't know, I have four little sisters with Down syndrome and they are some of my favorite people on this planet. Yesterday we rocked our socks and my sisters wore their, "Am I extra, or are you basic?" shirts to celebrate!
Sammy is a planner. She memorizes every event on the calendar, keeps everyone on track with what needs to happen that day, and keeps us informed about what is coming up. I dare anyone to try to change up the schedule on her, she won't let you live it down.
Jayne is gentle. You can typically find her spending time with her animals, taking care of her baby doll, or sitting with her water bottle of glitter, watching the sparkles settle to the bottom. While she is sweet and caring, she makes you work hard to earn her affection. It's worth the effort, though. Not much is better than seeing her smile as she reluctantly tells you she loves you.
Agnes is a protector. If she sees anyone walking up to Jayne with what she perceives is ill intent, she will quickly come to Jayne's defense (even if it may not have been necessary). She has a sweet soul, and while it sometimes takes a moment for her to come around, she always ends up doing the right thing in the end.
Rosie is brilliant. Nothing and no one can stop her from achieving exactly what she sets out to achieve. She works hard every day to find a way to navigate her way through life and I am so proud of her. Rosie can be impulsive and quick to react, but she always turns it around with a big hug. Her big brown eyes make me melt and her silly faces can turn any bad day into one filled with laughter.
Anyone who has met my sisters can tell you that they are special young ladies. Life is better with them in it and I feel fortunate every single day to call them mine.
